There are two different systems here and they have very different answers, so this page keeps them apart.

The application

Neaten does not upload your spreadsheets. There is no Neaten server to upload them to. Files are read, transformed and written on your own computer, and the published build contains no telemetry — not disabled by default, absent. There is no account and no sign-in, and your licence is verified offline with a signature.

The application makes an outbound request in exactly three situations, all of which you start: you press “Check for updates”; you use the optional AI assistant, which sends column names and types — never cell values, never file names — to the provider whose API key you supplied and shows you what it will send first; or you click a link, which opens in your own browser.

This website

This site sets no cookies and loads no third-party scripts, fonts, pixels or analytics. There is nothing here from Google, Meta or anyone else. That is why there is no consent banner: there is nothing to consent to.

What is measured

First-party, cookieless page and click counts, sent to this site's own server. One record looks like: which page, which button, which plan, a coarse device type, a language, and any campaign parameters that were in the link you followed. Campaign values are truncated and restricted to a short set of characters before they are stored.

Not collected: your IP address is used to rate-limit a request and is not stored with the event; your full user agent is not stored; your referrer is reduced to a hostname; no identifier is set that would let a later visit be linked to an earlier one. Campaign parameters live in your browser's sessionStorage, which your browser discards when you close the tab, and never leave your device except attached to an event you triggered.

If you buy

Checkout is handled by Stripe. Your card details go to Stripe and never reach this site — there is no code here that could receive a card number. Stripe tells us that a payment succeeded, your email address, your billing country and, if you gave one, your VAT number. We store your email address, the plan, the amount and the licence key we issued, because that is what lets us send you your key again when you lose it.

Your email address is used to send you your licence and messages about your own order. It is not used for marketing, is not sold, and is not shared with anyone except the payment provider and the email provider that delivers the message.

Stripe's own privacy policy governs what Stripe does with the data you give it during checkout.

Business analytics

Counts of the events above may be forwarded to Company OS, the separate system that runs the business behind Neaten. What is forwarded is restricted by a written contract to a fixed list of fields — page, plan, currency, campaign, coarse device and country — and a check refuses to send anything that looks like an email address, a licence key or an IP address. Order references are forwarded only as a one-way digest.

How long things are kept

Order and licence records are kept while the licence is valid and afterwards for as long as accounting law requires them. Event counts carry no identifier and are kept as aggregates.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask for a copy of what is held about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted — subject to records we are legally required to keep, such as invoices. Write to the address below and it will be dealt with.
